The U.S. House of Representatives has passed the Thrift Savings Plan Enhancement Act of 2009, allowing the FDA the ability "to regulate the contents of tobacco products, make public their ingredients, prohibit flavoring, require much larger warning labels and strictly control or prohibit marketing campaigns, especially those geared toward children." The legislation passed 298-112, but the Senate is expected to put up a bigger fight.

Meanwhile, the cigarette tax tripled today, going from 39 cents to $1.01, which some are saying is an unfair tax on the poor and a break in Obama's promise to not tax those making $250k a year or less.
