Afghanistan elections
Afghans head to the polls this week for Presidential elections. Though President Hamid Karzai is expected to win, he may be facing a run off, leading to several possibilities, from a runoff to violence.
Cheney appalled that Bush didn’t listen to him
It seems fairly obvious in restrospect, but according to the Washington Post, Vice President Cheney was not totally happy with President Bush:
"In the second term, he felt Bush was moving away from him," said a participant in the recent gathering, describing Cheney's reply. "He said Bush was shackled by the public reaction and the criticism he took. Bush was more malleable to that. The implication was that Bush had gone soft on him, or rather Bush had hardened against Cheney's advice. He'd showed an independence that Cheney didn't see coming. It was clear that Cheney's doctrine was cast-iron strength at all times -- never apologize, never explain -- and Bush moved toward the conciliatory."
Cheney's memoirs are due in 2011, where he promised to go into more detail about this and other things.
Obama, President for life
Some Friday Fun: Let's take a look at H.J.Res.5, which would repeal the 22nd amendment and allow a President to run for an unlimited number of terms. No, it doesn't have a chance of passing, but the bill has been around Washington for 20 years and OpenCongress does a nice job of looking at its history.
Bush vs Cheney
As Vice-President Cheney continues attacking the current administration, President Bush keeps his silence. Talk about awkward.

One Cheney supporter referred to “confusion” and “bewilderment” among conservatives that Bush has not taken the same tack.

Notre Dame, the President and change
Notre Dame has invited the President give the commencement address, upsetting Catholics and other religious leaders (yay Pat Buchanan). But maybe the problem isn't politics vs religion, but the Catholic Church's response to changing times.
Hunting for Bleeding-Hearts
Does the President's budget set a new baseline for government's obligations to it's citizens? David Brooks hears from "Obamatons" for saying so.    Continues...
Obama, Warren and the feel of compromise
To some, it's painful to realize that Rick Warren and Barack Obama agree on gay marriage and to know that Warren will be giving the invocation at Obama's inauguration. There's really no other way to put it or even tip toe around that. The inclusion of Warren, not only at the beginning, not only on stage, but with a actual part to play in the christening of the candidate who's campaign motto was "Change we can believe in" is disheartening, particularly on the heels of the defeat of Prop 8, which Warren so vocally supported.

Such is the nature of compromise.
