As the U.S. ambassdor to Afghanistan cautions against a troop surge in Afghanistan, President Obama is said to be dissatisfied with arguments both for and against adding additional troops to the country.
At issue is whether to send additional American troops, if so how many and what will their focus be.
The current US Commander, General Stanley McChrystal, is asking for 40,000 additional troops, some to be used for combating the Taliban, others to train the Afghan army. The US ambassador, Karl Eikenberry, has reservations, based on his previous tours in the country as an Army General, about whether US troops can do anything as long political corruption runs rampant in Afghanistan.
Obama is said to be looking at four options, which vary the amount and focus of the troops sent.
