Gay Marriage in Vermont almost there
The Vermont House voted 95-52 on Thursday night to allow same-sex couples to marry in Vermont. However, Governor Jim Douglas has promised to veto any such bill that comes to him.

Iowa's Supreme Court has ruled their state's amendment defining marriage as one man, one woman to be unconstitutional.

New Hampshire seems to be on a similar track with Vermont.
Vermont's legislature overrode the governor's veto today.

Also DC's city council voted unanimously to recognize same-sex marriages granted by states. But Congress needs to approve that before it goes into effect. And it was Congress that denied DC the right to use local or federal funds to actually act on its domestic partnership law from 1992 to 2002.
Yah for legislatures! Will of the people and all that...

Don't get me started about DCs independence or lack of.
Connecticut has legalized gay marriage. It removes gender references in marriage laws and transforms civil unions into marriages as of October 2010.
Maine had a public hearing yesterday to begin its legislative debate over a gay marriage bill.
It redefines marriage in Connecticut as the legal union of two people.

But if we allow gay marriage, it'll lead to bestiality! OH WAIT.

Three other states — Massachusetts, Vermont and Iowa — also allow gay marriage.

One way or another, it's going to happen. Those who campaigned so hard against this can have restless sleep, knowing their children, if not themselves, will see this happen.

"Live and let live."

Indeed.
It's far from over though. And I don't consider it inevitable. The number of states banning gay marriage in their state constitutions or by other means is still pretty damn high. It's illegal everywhere I've ever lived, even in Obamarama blue Maryland.
Yeah, but my point was that this doesn't seem be an issue with younger generations, which is kinda amusing on this particular issue. It doesn't matter how hard the anti-gay forces fight, it's going to happen, they're fighting a losing battle. Which kinda fits for the south, bless their heart.
Today the DC city council made its final vote on a bill that would recognize gay marriages performed in other states. It's a test to see how Congress reacts before they try a bill that allows gay marriage in DC. Congress can kill the bill within 30 days, but if it doesn't, the bill becomes law.

Now that Marion Barry's out of the hospital, he was able to cast the lone dissenting vote. Barry: "I am a politician who is moral."
Update: it's complicated. Just read Washington City Paper's coverage.
Am I the only one that thinks it’s funny that the one person who votes against a marriage bill was arrested in a hotel room with coccaine?

No, no you're not.

I'm willing to bet that Congress will come along and put a stop to this.
Sometimes I miss the wacky shameless fun of Memphis local crime politics. Recently I discovered that checking Google News to see what Marion Barry's been up to that week never fails to scratch that itch.
