Final vote on Sotomayor today
The full U.S. Senate is expected to vote on and confirm Sonia Sotomayor to the Supreme Court around 3pm today. 31 Republicans have publicly stated they won't vote for first representative of the fastest growing and largest minority in America, citing concerns with judicial activism, second amendment rights and statements she's made in speeches.

Final vote tally was 68-31, with nine Republicans joining the Democrats in voting for her.

Ted Kennedy was the only Senator not voting, due to him getting treatment for brain cancer.
3rd woman to serve out of 111 judges so far. Wow.
Oh absolutely, It's a really great for progress.

The overwhelming NO votes by the Republicans bother me though. It doesn't bode well, especially since the reasoning seemed weak.
Looking at past nomination votes, Sotomayer did better than Samuel Alito, so it's not that bad, though it might be signs of trend. We'll see how the next nominee goes.
She'll be sworn in on Saturday and in another first, it'll be the first SCOTUS swearing in on television, at 11am EST. She'll do one oath in private with just her family and Chief Justic Roberts, then a second oath in public. It's not clear whether it's the same oath or different ones, but I can't imagine why SCOTUS judges would do two different oaths. Either way the big news is that an official act related to the Supreme Court will be on TV. No cameras are allowed in the courtroom, but Sotomayor, said during the confirmation hearings that she'd be open cameras in the SCOTUS courtroom, after talking with the other justices. Perhaps this is a sign of things to come.

Also, massive props to her mom, who came from poverty and went on to raise a Supreme Court Judge and a doctor.
The swearing in was short but sweet (Yay Roberts for not screwing it up). Sotomayor seemed to take the oath very seriously.

She's got a month to get up to speed and then years of taking notes of meetings and answering the door while adjusting to living in D.C..
