2008 Election, round two
There's a special election going on in New York's 20th Congressional District and the parties are watching it closely to see what it says about the Obama administration. Currently, Democrat Scotty Murphy is in the lead against Republican Jim Tedisco, but just barely, so the race could go either way.

What's interesting to me is how much this race seems to be about national issues, probably due to New York's stature as a state and the location of Wall Street within it's borders. But realistically, it's just another Congressional race, where local issues will ultimately dominate if not the election then the day to day affairs of what the winner will deal with.

Also interesting is Obama's lack of actual campaigning for Murphy. Sure, he's sent out an email message, but for someone who's been already given a State of the Union address (unofficially), several press conferences and numerous interviews, it's a bit odd he can't spare a day or two to campaign for one of his party's races. Politically, it makes sense, sure, but at some point, Obama is going to have to be willing to back Democratic candidates. If he's only willing to back clear winners, that's a bad sign.
